EuroCALL 2014 | Useful Links

1: www.soorvey.com.

A free online survey generator. Can be accessed through a smartphone, mobile device.

2: www.Weebly.com.

I used this as a homepage for the courses where students could get up-to-date course information, as well as interacting with other class members.

There is a FREE version, which can be used by students to create their own home-pages, but it is limited in what can be included on the site. The paid version is the one that I used and came out at about $6 a month.

3: http://pod.flare.hiroshima-u.ac.jp/cms/enw.php

The homepage for English News Weekly, a current affairs news podcast of English language learners. An example of the FREE PDF that accompanies each audio episode is available on a earlier post on this blog.

Each audio episode is approximately 15 mins in length. Audio podcast can be listened to as a standalone activity or used with the PDF.

English News Weekly is released each week, 50 times a year. It is completely FREE.

It is also available on iTunes, Facebook and Twitter.

4: Hirodai English App

A newly released FREE app that contains easy access to the English News Weekly podcast. Both audio and PDF is available to download through this app.

Podcasts written, edited and spoken by students at Hiroshima University are also included on the app.  Currently there are 11 student podcast, but more will be uploaded in time.

5: Wordeo App

A video messaging app that allows students to record short videos of 1 minute and imbed their own text messages through the video message.

This is app was only released in January 2014 and is still only available on I.O.S devices.

6: SoundCloud App

This app is great as it can be downloaded on any mobile operating system and allows up to 120 minutes of free audio upload.

Students used this app mostly for homework activities, either sending messages to themselves to listen to and respond or for posting audio assignments.

A little quirk that developed during Course One, was students recording their audio assignments in different parts of the Hiroshima and then asking other students to guess their location. This led to students doing longer audio recordings than was set for homework as they tried to give hints about where they recorded it from. It turned out to be the most popular part of the audio assignments, which was great as it was student led.
